GTT Marine Lands Flagship Digitalisation Project for PETRONAS’ Chartered LNG Fleet
The integrated package will combine vessel performance monitoring, voyage optimisation, cargo management and round-the-clock fleet support across PETRONAS’ entire time-chartered LNG carrier fleet.
GTT Marine has secured a major fleet-wide digitalisation project from Malaysian energy giant PETRONAS, marking one of the most significant contracts publicly announced by the company since the GTT Group consolidated its maritime digital businesses under the GTT Marine brand.
Under the agreement announced on 23 July 2026, GTT Marine will deploy a fully integrated vessel performance management solution across PETRONAS’ entire fleet of time-chartered LNG carriers.
The framework has also been designed to accommodate additional LNG vessels chartered by PETRONAS in the future, allowing the digital platform to expand alongside the company’s shipping requirements.
The project brings together vessel data collection, performance analysis, voyage optimisation, emissions reduction and LNG cargo management within a single operating environment.
For PETRONAS, the system is intended to improve fleet efficiency, strengthen cost control and support efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its chartered LNG shipping operations.
From fragmented tools to an integrated fleet platform
The vessel performance monitoring package will use GTT Marine’s onboard data acquisition capabilities to collect, standardise and analyse operational information from multiple sources.
These will include traditional noon reports as well as high-frequency data generated by onboard sensors and machinery systems.
The information will then be processed through the Vesper Insights analytics platform, transforming raw vessel data into operational guidance for crews and shore-based fleet managers.
By gaining a clearer view of long-term vessel performance, PETRONAS will be able to better plan technical operations, maintenance schedules, voyage execution and other fleet management activities.
The system is also expected to help identify performance deviations at an earlier stage, allowing operational teams to take corrective action before inefficiencies lead to higher fuel consumption or increased operating costs.
Voyage optimisation backed by digital twins
GTT Marine will also provide voyage optimisation services combining weather and ocean data, vessel-specific performance models and digital twin technology.
The service will be supported by GTT Marine’s fleet operations centre, which will provide technical assistance around the clock.
Together, these capabilities are designed to support both shipboard crews and shore-based teams in route planning, fuel management and emissions reduction.
For LNG carriers, voyage optimisation involves more than selecting the shortest or fastest route.
Speed, weather, sea conditions, propulsion performance, cargo pressure and boil-off gas management must all be considered when planning and executing a voyage.
By combining these operational variables within an integrated platform, GTT Marine aims to help PETRONAS make more informed decisions across the entire voyage cycle.
Greater visibility over LNG cargo operations
The package will also include an LNG cargo management module, complementing the vessel performance and voyage optimisation services.
The module is intended to provide improved visibility over cargo tank operations and associated onboard activities throughout the voyage.
Cargo management is particularly important for LNG carriers because changes in temperature, pressure, vessel speed and weather conditions can affect boil-off gas generation and overall energy efficiency.
Improved cargo visibility can therefore support both safer operations and more efficient use of LNG as cargo and fuel.
The PETRONAS contract demonstrates how GTT Marine is seeking to combine several previously separate digital capabilities into a single fleet management offering.
GTT Marine was created by bringing together the technologies and expertise of Danelec, Ascenz Marorka and Vessel Performance Solutions.
The combined business now covers onboard data collection, voyage data recorders, vessel performance monitoring, route optimisation, emissions management and shore-based operational support.
Casper Jensen, chief executive of GTT Marine, said the PETRONAS agreement demonstrated the competitiveness of the integrated product portfolio created through the combination of the three companies.
“This collaboration with PETRONAS is a strong validation of the integrated offering we have built by bringing together Danelec, Ascenz Marorka and Vessel Performance Solutions,” Jensen said.
“We can now deliver data acquisition, performance analytics and voyage optimisation through one integrated solution, supported by a dedicated fleet centre operating around the clock.”
He added that the core value of the integration was to help shipping companies move away from fragmented digital tools and towards unified, data-driven operational decision-making.
A flagship project for the new GTT Marine platform
The PETRONAS deployment represents an important commercial milestone for GTT Marine’s newly consolidated structure.
Rather than supplying an individual software product or a standalone onboard system, the company will provide a broad digital operating framework covering an entire chartered LNG fleet.
The project also highlights the growing role of charterers in vessel digitalisation.
Although PETRONAS does not necessarily own all the ships covered by the agreement, it is seeking a consistent fleet-wide view of performance, fuel consumption, emissions and cargo operations across vessels operated by different owners and managers.
For large LNG charterers, such standardisation is becoming increasingly important.
A unified digital platform can allow charterers to compare vessel performance, identify inefficiencies and apply common operating standards across a diversified fleet.
The agreement also reflects a broader shift in maritime digitalisation.
Shipping companies are increasingly looking beyond individual fuel-monitoring or route-planning tools and are instead seeking integrated systems capable of connecting onboard data with shore-based fleet management.
For GTT, the project strengthens its expansion beyond LNG containment systems and engineering services.
The group is building a broader maritime technology platform spanning vessel construction, cargo containment, operational performance, emissions management and digital fleet services.
With PETRONAS placing its entire chartered LNG carrier fleet within the new system, the contract provides GTT Marine with a high-profile reference project in one of the most technically demanding segments of global shipping.
