1,500 Tonnes! Seacon Fuels OOCL WISDOM’s Maiden Voyage
Xiamen U-Link Shipping completed the key methanol bunkering operation for the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel containership at Qingdao.
On July 3, OOCL WISDOM, the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel containership, started her maiden commercial voyage at Shandong Port Qingdao. During the port call, the vessel completed loading of more than 3,000 TEUs and received 1,500 tonnes of methanol through a ship-to-ship bunkering operation.
The methanol bunkering operation was carried out by Jian Hang Li Da, a stainless-steel chemical tanker owned by Xiamen U-Link Shipping Co.,Ltd, a member company of Seacon Shipping Group. The vessel has been specially upgraded to support green methanol transportation and bunkering services.
OOCL WISDOM has a length of 399.99 metres, a beam of 61.3 metres and a maximum container capacity of 24,168 TEUs. The vessel is operated globally by OOCL and will be deployed on the Qingdao–Europe mainline service after departing Qingdao.
This operation marks another important step in China’s green marine fuel supply chain. Unlike dedicated methanol bunker vessels, Jian Hang Li Da combines liquid chemical transportation with methanol bunkering capability. This flexible model allows the vessel to serve normal chemical cargo trades while switching to green methanol bunkering when required by ports and shipowners.
For Seacon Shipping and Xiamen U-Link Shipping, the successful bunkering of OOCL WISDOM demonstrates their growing capability in green fuel transportation and marine energy services. It also reflects the closer cooperation between Seacon Shipping and Shandong Port Qingdao in developing Qingdao into a green fuel bunkering hub in Northeast Asia.
As more methanol dual-fuel vessels enter service, stable and predictable fuel supply will become a key factor for shipowners. This operation shows that China’s ports, shipping companies and energy service providers are moving from technical preparation to real commercial operation in green methanol bunkering.
