Hengli Heavy Industry Posts Record-Breaking H1 2026: 207 Orders, 8 VLACs, and a Full-Spectrum Ship Portfolio
Halfway through 2026, Hengli Heavy Industry has delivered an impressive mid-year performance, securing new shipbuilding orders for 207 vessels in the first half of the year. The order portfolio covers a full spectrum of ship types, including bulk carriers, container ships, and oil tankers—specifically 49 bulk carriers, 56 container ships, and 94 oil tankers—along with 8 very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) making their debut in the order matrix. Both the degree of vessel diversification and the single-yard order intake have set new industry records.

With these remarkable order wins, Hengli Heavy Industry has entered a new phase of industry leadership. In terms of order composition, container ships and oil tankers together account for over 70%, reflecting the company's continued breakthroughs in high-value-added vessel segments, while the balanced mix of bulk carriers and VLACs underscores its resilience against market cyclical fluctuations. In particular, the capture of 8 VLAC orders this year marks that Hengli Heavy Industry is now competitive with international shipyards in the emerging gas carrier segment. This is a clear testament to the high recognition international shipowners have for Hengli's build quality, delivery efficiency, and green ship technologies.

In the first half of 2026, Hengli Heavy Industry delivered 40 vessels with high quality. Economies of scale have enabled batch production and rhythmic manufacturing, while early, high-quality deliveries have earned Hengli a strong reputation in the international market.

Capacity expansion and full-industry-chain supporting facilities are advancing in tandem. Hengli Heavy Industry is currently pushing forward comprehensive capacity expansion, with new projects gradually coming online, forming an industrial cluster that integrates shipbuilding, offshore engineering, and supporting equipment—aiming to build the world's largest single-site shipbuilding base.
In terms of production capacity, Hengli Heavy Industry currently has an annual steel processing capacity of 3 million tons and an annual output of 300 marine engines. Its four main dry docks can simultaneously build VLCCs and 10,000-TEU container ships in batches, enabling an efficient production model with multiple vessels under construction concurrently and centralized dock-out. With the market continuing to strengthen in 2026, Hengli's order backlog keeps rising, with cumulative orders exceeding 500 vessels and delivery schedules extending through 2030, placing it firmly among the top tier of private Chinese shipbuilders in terms of order reserves.
Hengli Heavy Industry's mid-year results are not only reflected in the 207-vessel order intake but also in the balanced and forward-looking nature of its vessel mix. From the three traditional mainstream ship types to emerging categories like VLACs, and from ship construction to self-developed power systems, Hengli Heavy Industry is reshaping the competitive landscape of China's private shipbuilding through a "full-spectrum, full-chain" layout. Looking ahead, as its green ship expansion projects reach full capacity and its proprietary power system localization is implemented, the company's influence in the global high-end shipbuilding sector is expected to grow further, continuously supporting the high-quality development of China's advanced shipbuilding industry.
