COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd. has formally appointed Gu Weidong as General Manager, marking an important management reshuffle at one of the world’s leading specialized shipping operators.

The board approved Gu’s appointment on 7 August, while he has also been nominated as a board director, subject to shareholder approval.

Interestingly, Gu had already appeared publicly in his new role before the formal board announcement.

On 4 August, during a meeting with Jiangsu Port Group Chairman Chen Ming, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers officially identified Gu as General Manager and Deputy Party Secretary, indicating that he had already begun performing his new duties.

Born in 1970, Gu has extensive experience within the COSCO SHIPPING system and the specialized shipping sector. His previous roles include senior management positions covering multipurpose and heavy-lift shipping, crewing, timber carriers and international shipping operations.

His appointment comes as COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers continues to expand its capabilities in multipurpose, heavy-lift, semi-submersible and vehicle transportation, supported by growing demand from China’s advanced manufacturing, automotive and renewable-energy industries.
