Shiptec China 2026.10.28-10.30 | German Pavilion | Mayr Safety Brakes: Robust, Powerful and Seawater-Corrosion Resistant – Safe and Durable Product Solutions for Harsh Environments
The 17th International Shipbuilding,Marine Equipment and Offshore Engineering Exhibition China is about to kick off. As one of the most influential international maritime events in Northeast Asia, this exhibition will gather cutting-edge technologies, innovative equipment and solutions from the global shipbuilding industry, and build a platform for in-depth exchanges and practical cooperation among upstream and downstream players in the industrial chain.
Reliable, high-performance safety brakes are indispensable for applications subject to extreme torque, especially under demanding operating conditions. Port and offshore equipment represent typical working scenarios of this kind.
With new models of the ROBA-stop S and ROBA-stop M series, Mayr® has expanded its brake portfolio for offshore applications to cover a braking torque range from 1,000 Nm to 3,500 Nm. Even in emergencies, these brakes deliver stable and dependable braking torque under harsh operating conditions.
Core Overview
ROBA-stop M 2000
- As a holding brake: braking torque up to 3,500 Nm
- As a dynamic brake: braking torque up to 2,500 Nm
- Protection class: IP54 or IP66 available
ROBA-stop S 11
- Braking torque: standard rated value 1,200 Nm
- Protection class: IP67 + special primer for offshore applications
- Reaching the highest corrosion protection class of DIN EN ISO 12944 after customers apply topcoat
Simplified Maintenance
- Highly wear-resistant friction liners greatly reduce inspection and downtime
- Only air gap readjustment / rotor replacement required
- Inspection and servicing accessible from the rear; complete brake disassembly is unnecessary
01 Larger-Scale Applications with Escalating Challenges
Large offshore equipment including port cranes, jack-up platforms and anchor winches impose extremely high requirements on load capacity and braking torque. Coupled with pervasive salt spray corrosion, these scenarios place far higher demands on brakes than standard operating conditions.
02 ROBA-stop M 2000 · Elevated Torque and Enhanced Protection
The ROBA-stop M 2000 brake is commonly used as a holding brake: it locks loads reliably when rotational speed approaches zero. It can also perform dynamic braking to absorb instantaneous heavy friction energy — for example, when loads require emergency stop upon power failure at high operating speeds. The IP54 version is selected for normal conditions, while the fully enclosed IP66 design is adopted for harsh environments with rain or seawater splash.

03 Tailored for Offshore Operating Conditions
For higher protection requirements, such as cranes, anchor winches and jack-up platforms exposed directly to salt spray and marine environments, the combination of IP67 protection class and high-performance corrosion protection system is the preferred solution.
The ROBA-stop S 11 brake is designed for offshore environments. Besides its high ingress protection rating, it can be coated with special offshore anti-corrosion primer upon customer request. Once the customer applies matching topcoat, it achieves the highest corrosion protection class defined by DIN EN ISO 12944.

04 Easy Assembly & Disassembly, Reliable Operation
Featuring a sturdy structure and quick installation, the brake is fitted with wear-resistant friction liners to cut inspection frequency and downtime significantly. The air gap of ROBA-stop S brakes can be readjusted; only the friction disk needs replacement once friction liners reach end of service life. Even when ROBA-stop S 11 is mounted in place, its friction disk can be replaced from the rear. This facilitates maintenance under extreme conditions and minimizes risks to crew and equipment.
“Electric drives are becoming more compact with higher power density, while requiring greater braking torque than ever before. That is why we supply brakes with braking torque well above 1,000 Nm for the offshore industry.”
