January 15 marks a significant milestone for Hengli Heavy Industry as the grand launch ceremony of the "Future Factory" took place on Changxing Island, Dalian. This moment signifies a new phase of high-quality development for Hengli .
Within five months, Hengli has showcased its signature speed and determination. The project broke ground on August 15 last year, and from day one, the Hengli team, alongside thousands of construction workers, worked tirelessly, racing against time to transform an empty site into a vibrant, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Today, this 6-square-kilometer "Future Factory" stands as a testament to perseverance and ambition.
The “Future Factory” represents a giant leap toward excellence, with its focus on manufacturing high-value-added green vessels and advanced offshore engineering equipment. It is designed to build VLCC, LNG LPG, container ships, FPSO,floating wind turbines, and drilling platforms. At full capacity, the factory will process 2.3 million tons of steel annually and produce 180 engines each year, cementing Hengli’s position as a global leader in shipbuilding and marine engineering.
This achievement also breathes new life into revitalized assets. Hengli's strategic reuse of the former STX Dalian facilities was recently recognized by China’s National Development and Reform Commission as a prime example of efficient asset utilization. The transformation from dormant assets to a thriving industry hub is a shining case of resilience and long-term vision.
Hengli’s rapid progress has already garnered significant milestones: the early delivery of its first vessel, successful engine production, and the launch of its first 306,000-ton VLCC. With order books filled until 2028, over 30 ships currently under construction, and an expected annual output of 150 large vessels, Hengli is set to redefine global standards in shipbuilding. The “Future Factory” will serve as a cutting-edge, sustainable, and intelligent base for marine and offshore innovation.
Chairman Chen Jianhua shared his ambitious vision: “Once fully operational, Hengli Heavy Industry will generate an annual output value exceeding 70 billion RMB. With the Future Factory's launch, we’re not just building ships; we’re setting a benchmark for the industry, driving towards a greener, smarter, and stronger manufacturing future.”
As the “14th Five-Year Plan” concludes, Hengli Heavy Industry has kicked off the year with a strong opening move, embracing the mission to strengthen China’s shipbuilding industry and contribute to the revitalization of Northeast China. The company’s ethos—“If we do it, we aim to be the best”—continues to shine, as Hengli steers toward its dream of becoming a world-class shipbuilder and marine engineering powerhouse.
