Xi visits Huanghua Port to learn about port operation, development

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Thursday visited Huanghua Port in Cangzhou City of north China's Hebei Province to learn about the operation and development planning of this key port for thermal coal transportation.

Located on the west coast of the Bohai Bay, Huanghua Port has boosted the development of the Xiongan New Area, the middle and south parts of Hebei, and other areas including Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia.

Huanghua Port consists of four parts, namely the comprehensive area, the bulk cargo port area, the coal port area and the estuary area. With a 71-kilometer planned shoreline, the port has 46 berths currently. In 2022, the port's container throughput exceeded 1 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the first time.

It is also an important hub for China's west-to-east coal transportation and north-to-south coal transportation.

The construction of this coal-exporting port, undertaken by China Energy Huanghua Harbor Administration Corporation, Ltd, started in November 1997. Now the coal port area has 17 berths for coal, four berths for general cargo and one berth for oil.

By the end of 2022, the total coal throughput of Huanghua Port had surpassed 2.5 billion tons.
