SPG independently develops A-TOS intelligent control system

Shandong Port Group (SPG) held a launching ceremony for the A-TOS intelligent control system that is applied in fully automated container terminals as well as an achievement promotion strategic cooperation agreement signing ceremony on Sept 27. Xinhua News Agency unveiled the A-TOS intelligent control system, which was independently developed by a group of engineers on the Liangang Innovation Team that is based in Beijing and Qingdao. The project has reached world leading level, according to the evaluation of the China Institute of Navigation, which indicates that SPG has again raised the bar for Chinese ports' sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening.

In response to the digital, networked and intelligent development trend in the global port and shipping sector, the team focused on service upgrading and efficiency improvement and was guided by specific production demands to independently develop a new cutting-edge technology designed for ports – the "cloud native+" A-TOS intelligent control system. The system utilizes cloud native+ and other technologies to develop an intelligent control system that integrates planning and control, which enables port operations to run more smoothly, accurately and intelligently.

SPG continues to focus on enhancing the service experience for customers through independent sci-tech innovation, which has been unanimously endorsed by its customers. Mr. Kim Jungkyum, general manager of the Qingdao Branch of Hanxin Shipping (Shanghai) Co Ltd, said that the launch of this new system presents a huge benefit for carriers, as it can make data transmission more convenient and accurately provide loading and unloading information and customized schedule services in real time. It can also steadily enhance vessel handling efficiency, ease the negative effects that COVID-19 has on vessel scheduling, and help cut rental costs.

Going forward, SPG plans to implement national strategies of "building China into a leader in science and technology", "building China into a strong maritime country" and "building China into a country with a strong transportation network". Meanwhile, it works to be a leader in areas including port production, port management, scientific and technological innovation, and new energy technology application. All of these aspects are expected to contribute to its goal of becoming a world-class sea port.
