After momentary relief in February when throughput was up 7.6%, the Port of Hong Kong saw throughput fall again in March, this time by 8.3%.
Drilling down into the figures Kwai Tsing terminals were again the worse hit, recording throughput of 1.128m teu, reflecting a 12% drop in the number of containers handled. The midstream operators conversely saw an increase in liftings of 8.8%, by handling 300,000 teu.
Throughput at Hong Kong Port for the first quarter of 2022 has fallen by 8.9% compared to 2021, to a total 3.746m teu.
