Ports in south China's Guangdong Province are striving to ensure smooth international marine logistics to stabilize global supply chain amid lingering COVID-19 pandemic.
In southern boomtown Shenzhen, Yantian Port is a crucial role by undertaking one third of the foreign trade throughput in Guangdong Province, while serving as key node and main artery of international logistics supply chain.
As the coronavirus epidemic has gradually eased, the berths of Yantian Port are bustling, and the throughput has resumed to the previous levels.
A variety of high-tech facilities, such as automatic identification system of ships, have sped up the approval procedures of ships’ entry and exit with more convenience.
"Yantian International Container Terminals ushered in the first Southeast Asia shipping route 'CPH'. Meanwhile, we opened the Sea-Rail express line from Yantian to Hong Kong, providing a new route for the fast and efficient arrival of materials supplied to Hong Kong. The "Yantian-Hong Kong" cross-border maritime express line has transported more than 146,900 tons of supplies," said Chen Yiwen, the executive director of Yantian International Container Terminals.
As the fourth largest container hub port in the world, Shenzhen Port's international liner ship routes have reached more than 300 ports in over 100 countries and regions.
In March, Shenzhen Port saw an average of 132 berthing ships with a daily container throughput of 64,000 TEUs [twenty-foot equivalent unit] and over 20,000 trailers, reflecting that the port is running smoothly and orderly.
Despite the impacts of the epidemic, the Shenzhen Port is still endeavoring to strengthen maritime routes for a stable global supply chain.
"To alleviate the present shipment pressure with severe shortage of ship cabin and container, our bureau will cooperate with other relevant departments to coordinate the liner ship enterprises to ensure the berths for foreign trade, supervising the port enterprise to strictly implement the epidemic prevention and control measures. For the relevant personnel, we will carry out 'two points, one line' management to ensure that personnel's work in port area is normal," said Chen Xu, an officer of Port and Waterway Administration Office under Transport Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality.
