SPG makes new progress in green port construction

A launch ceremony for a new energy demonstration project for ports operator Shandong Port Group or SPG — and for delivering heavy electric trucks — took place in the port city of Qingdao, in East China's Shandong province, on Oct 16.

The event is expected to help SPG develop higher-quality internationally advanced smart and green ports.

The concept of developing what is known as an ecological civilization — China's environmental strategy, added to the constitution in 2018 — has been described sustainable development with Chinese characteristics.

Dubbed the transportation hub for the national integrated transport system, SPG's operations are reportedly where all the various transport modes — including road, rail, pipeline and seaborne transportation — converge.

According to SPG officials, nearly 100,000 sets of transport equipment go in and out of SPG's 19 major port areas every day. At Qingdao's Qianwan port area alone, nearly 35,000 different types of vehicles enter and depart the facility daily, making it a significant area for reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

This way, SPG is expected to make its due contribution to helping achieve the national goal of peak  carbon emissions before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060 — as well as helping to build a "Beautiful China" where the sky is blue, the land is green and the water is clear.
