Tangshan port establishes inland port in Xi'an

Tangshan Port set up an inland port in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, on March 27. The two ports will work together to promote the operation of Xi'an-Tangshan Port land-sea intermodal transport, and add new momentum to the Xi'an land-sea intermodal transport corridor.

Tangshan in Hebei province in North China, a coastal city with 4467 square kilometers of sea area and 229.7 kilometers of natural coastline, has the best port and seaway conditions in the Bohai Bay.

Tangshan Port, as the frontier for the new round of opening up in Tangshan and Hebei province, takes serving the national strategy and local economy as its responsibility, and is making great efforts to build the development pattern of large passage, large logistics and large trade.

In 2018, the throughput of Tangshan Port exceeded 300 million tons, and the container volume reached 2.33 million standard boxes, accounting for 55 percent of the total ports in Hebei, ranking among the top 20 in China and the top 100 in the world.

Xi'an is the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, located at the geographic center of China. It has the shortest average distance, the lowest cost and the highest comprehensive logistics efficiency. As China's first inland port with international and domestic double codes, Xi'an Port has gradually formed a land, sea and air transportation and logistics system that runs through Europe and Asia.

On March 25, the Belt and Road coastal ports, border ports, cities along the lines, railway companies and research institutes gathered in Xi'an and reached the initiative to jointly build the Belt and Road land-sea linkage great channel initiative, striving to build the China Railway Express Massing Center in Xi’an, indicating that the Xi'an international Trade and Logistic Park has opened a new prelude to the construction of the corridor system.

The inland port in Xi’an established by Tangshan Port is the first such port made by Tangshan Port in Northwest China.

With the establishment of the inland port, Tangshan Port has opened up the logistics channel between Tangshan Port and northwest inland China and Xi'an Port has added new logistics channels to the east, enhanced radiation and service capabilities, realized the complementary advantages between inland open highlands and coastal deep-water ports, and the two sides will work together to promote the Xi'an-Tangshan Port land-sea intermodal transport class.

“We will work together to promote the construction of major land-sea intermodal transport corridors,” said Cao Jinhua, member of the Standing Committee of Tangshan People's Congress at the opening ceremony.
