University of Liverpool successfully hosted event for maritime leaders in Hong Kong, China

The University of Liverpool and the UK Shipping Concierge hosted an event for maritime leaders at the British Consulate in Hong Kong.

The Maritime Breakfast Exchange provided an opportunity for Hong Kong and UK maritime leaders to exchange views and identify collaborative opportunities.

Professor Julia Balogun, Dean of the University of Liverpool Management School shared insights on research topics including transport and logistics, sustainability and decarbonisation, and the University’s collaboration with UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub. Professor Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor, the University of Liverpool spoke about Liverpool’s position as the UK's largest Western facing port, the city's landmark innovation partnership, the close maritime ties with Busan and the new deep water container terminal. They were joined by Sarah Leonard, Head of the UK Shipping Concierge, and Graham Candy, Commercial and Policy Manager, UK Shipping Concierge who discussed the links between the maritime industry and government and the UK maritime landscape as a whole.

The event was supported by ship management companies, members of the HK Shipowners Association, and professionals from the logistics, transport and energy sectors who expressed interests on Tonnage Tax incentives, academic and training programmes.

The Maritime Breakfast Exchange identified Hong Kong as the world's leading international maritime centre in the following directions: enhancing port competitiveness, strengthening high value-added maritime services and growing local talents to serve in the shipping industry.

Professor Julia Balogun, Professor Tim Jones and University of Liverpool colleagues met with current and potential collaborators including the Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to enhance the position of Hong Kong as an international maritime centre.
