South Korea: Concerns on radioactive contamination lead to new ballast water requirements

South Korea is adopting new measures on ballast water discharge following concerns arising from the discharge of treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear powerplant.
 
Spark International has advised that from August 24, 2023, the following requirements will apply to vessels entering the ports of Republic of Korea after taking on ballast water from ports in the following eastern Japanese prefectures:

·Aomori Prefecture
·Iwate Prefecture
·Fukushima Prefecture
·Miyagi Prefecture
·Ibaragi Prefecture
·Chiba Prefecture
