The world's first MSI Shipping Outlook Forum was successfully held in Singapore!

On June 28, the world's first MSI Shipping Outlook Forum was successfully held at Maxwell Chambers in Singapore, with representatives from the Singapore government, financial institutions, ship owners, shipyards, brokers, investors, insurance companies, classification societies, regulatory agencies and accounting firms in attendance. In total, nearly 100 VIPs from more than 70 companies participated in the event.  

The shipping industry is going through a period of uncertainty driven by high commodity prices, slow economic growth and political uncertainty brought about by the Russian- Ukrainian war. In addition, the fall out from COVID-19 has not disappeared with many sectors of the fleet still operating inefficiently.  

 

At the same time, the requirements for ships to reduce their emissions are also increasingwith the new EEXI and CII regulations beginning to impose stricter restrictions on existing vessels from next year.  

 

MSI provides an independent, holistic view across the industry, forecasting market fundamentals and market risks, thus providing a pivotal piece in any strategic decision-making process for all stakeholders at a time of heightened uncertainty. 

 

The MSI Shipping Outlook Forum officially started at around 3:00 pm with Mr. David Jordan introducing MSI and its forecasting approach. MSI's Managing Director, Dr. Adam Kent, who flew in from London for the event, presented on some common themes across the industry before Mr. Wang Jianjun, the new Regional Director, based in Singapore, presented MSI's current outlook for the dry bulk, oil tanker, and container ship markets. 

 

During the interactive session, the guests asked questions, with a clear focus on of the ramifications of the EEXI and CII regulations. The forum ran until around 5:00 pm with a lively discussion, and the following reception cocktail continued until 10:00 pm.
