The composite index decreased 0.3% this week but 12.8% up as compared with same period of 2018.
The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1537/40ft container, which is $58 higher than the five-year average of $1479/40ft container.
Drewry’s composite World Container Index (WCI) decreased 0.3% or $4 to reach $1,330.29 per 40ft container. Freight rates on Shanghai-Rotterdam dropped $48 to $1312 for a 40ft container. Similarly, rates fell $12 and stood at $1474 per feu on Shanghai-Genoa head haul leg. However, with imposition of GRI, freight rates on Rotterdam – New York grew $306 to $2302 for a 40ft box. Drewry expects that the rates may fall next week.
