$1.3 Billion Deal for 9 Methanol-Fueled RoPax Vessels – Grimaldi Group Strengthens Partnership with Chinese Shipbuilders

Grimaldi Group has once again placed a major vote of confidence in China’s shipbuilding industry by signing a $1.3 billion contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) for the construction of nine methanol-ready RoPax vessels – one of the largest green shipbuilding orders this year.

6 vessels for the Mediterranean under Grimaldi Lines & Minoan Lines
3 vessels for the Baltic Sea operated by Finnlines
All ships methanol-capable, cutting CO₂ emissions per unit of cargo by over 50%

This new order adds to Grimaldi’s long-standing relationship with Chinese shipyards:
2022: 10 ammonia-ready PCTCs at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu)
2023: 7 ammonia-ready PCTCs at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding
Past RoPax and GG5G contracts with Jinling Nanjing and Weihai yards

From green fuel technologies and shore power systems, to advanced energy management and next-gen design, these ships are a leap forward for sustainable short-sea shipping in Europe.
