MSC Expands Green Fleet with Up to 18 LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ships Ordered from Chinese Shipyards

According to recent data from Intermodal Shipbrokers, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has placed orders for up to 18 LNG dual-fuel container ships at two Chinese shipyards. This move underscores MSC’s commitment to its fleet renewal program, aimed at contributing to the shipping industry's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

New Orders:
6 x 19,000 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ships: These vessels have been ordered from one Chinese shipyard, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2028.
8 x 11,500 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ships: Ordered from another Chinese shipyard, with deliveries also set for 2027-2028. The order includes options for an additional 4 vessels of the same type.

This follows MSC’s recent order in early August for 12 x 19,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships from Zhoushan Changhong International Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. This is a continuation of their partnership, which previously included 10 x 11,500 TEU and 10 x 10,300 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships, marking Changhong International's entry into the ultra-large dual-fuel container ship construction field.
