During the recent Posidonia Maritime Exhibition in Greece, Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) signed agreements with several Chinese shipyards for the construction of up to 20 new vessels.
According to official reports from Fujian Shipbuilding, their subsidiaries, Mawei Shipbuilding and Xiamen Shipbuilding, have inked a significant contract with EPS, owned by Israeli shipping magnate Idan Ofer. The deal includes an order for four firm plus four optional 5,500 CEU dual-fuel car carriers.
These 190-meter-long, 35.6-meter-wide, and 14.10-meter-deep car carriers feature an electric RORO system and 11 decks, with decks 4, 6, and 8 being movable. Designed for unlimited voyages (excluding polar waters), they can transport passenger cars, vans, buses, trucks, freight container trailers, other high and heavy rolling cargo, new energy vehicles, and packaged dangerous goods within IMDG regulations.
Additionally, Mawei Shipbuilding and Southeast Shipbuilding signed an agreement with EPS for four firm plus four optional MR-type product tankers. Fujian Shipbuilding Group's Party Secretary and Chairman Zhao Jinjie witnessed the signing.
These MR-type tankers are 182.95 meters long, 32.20 meters wide, and 19.10 meters deep, with a design draft of 11.00 meters and a structural draft of 13.30 meters. They have a design speed of 14.5 knots and are suitable for transporting refined petroleum products, vegetable oils, and liquid chemicals (category II and III) with a flash point ≤60℃.
Fujian Shipbuilding stated that these contracts demonstrate their strong capabilities in shipbuilding and mark a deepened cooperation with EPS. The dual-fuel car carriers and MR-type product tankers, both high-tech ships, have significant advantages in environmental protection and energy efficiency, aligning with the global shipping industry's green development trend.
#### 4 Dual-Fuel LNG LR2 Tankers with GSI
On June 2, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and CSSC Trading signed a contract with EPS for the construction of four 111,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel LR2 tankers during a ceremony in Athens.
EPS Chairman Idan Ofer, CSSC Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director Du Gang, GSI Chairman Chen Ji, and CSSC Trading Deputy General Manager Lin Feng attended the signing ceremony. EPS CEO Cyril Ducau, CSSC International Cooperation Department Deputy Director and GSI Deputy General Manager Zhou Xuhui, and CSSC Trading's Ship Sea Department Deputy General Manager Zheng Minsheng signed the contracts on behalf of the parties.
GSI described the project as being independently developed, guided by the principles of "green environmental protection," and adhering to the design concepts of "efficiency, environmental protection, and safety." These new-generation LNG dual-fuel LR2 tankers, 250 meters long and 44 meters wide, have a structural draft of 14.7 meters and a speed of 14.5 knots under structural draft conditions. They are equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion systems, meet IMO TIER III emission standards, and achieve EEDI Phase 3 efficiency indices.
Notably, with this contract, EPS now has eight similar ships on order with GSI, making GSI one of the largest holders of dual-fuel tanker orders worldwide.
