Singapore's Eastern Pacific Shipping said it is in talks to place an order for two 158,000-dwt suez oil carriers at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding in Shanghai.
Newbuildings will be scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and early 2022.
Although Eastern Pacific believes that LNG will be the fuel of the future for the shipping industry, the shipowner is said to have ordered a traditional Suez oil carrier, not an LNG-powered ship.
If Eastern Pacific's order is confirmed, the deal marks Waigaoqiao's return to the Suez tanker sector six years later.
The last time Waigaoqiao signed an order for Suez type oil tankers was in 2014,when Singapore company Tulshyan signed a contract for five oil tankers at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
