Asia’s First Wind-Rotor System Start Commissioning by China

On January 11, the first Marine Wind-Rotor Assisted Propulsion System independently developed by China was successfully put into commissioning by Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd (COOEC).

The rotor sail system put into commissioning this time is installed on both sides of the front deck of the 10,000-ton large-scale deck transport vessel “Hai Yang Shi You 226”, and consists of a composite outer tube, a steel inner tower, a motor and a base, etc., with a design height of 18 meters, a diameter of 4 meters and a single-unit weight of 40 tons. At a maximum speed of 200 rpm, the system can work under an environment of minus 25℃, suitable for the icing sea area with the lowest latitude in the world.

A functional detachable base and an integrated intelligent central control system have been configured in the COOEC’s rotor sail system project for the first time, which can automatically obtain the wind speed and direction of the route and adjust the rotor sail working attitude to obtain the maximum kinetic energy, providing a brand-new mode for the green development and intelligent control of the ship industry.

After the installation of the rotor sail system, the vessel “Hai Yang Shi You 226” can save fuel by 12% and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 412 tons per year on average, thus achieving benefits throughout the full life cycle.
