LNG-powered container vessel to finish trial voyage in Shanghai

One of the world's largest container vessel powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expected to finish its week-long trial voyage in Shanghai Municipality of east China on Monday.

The vessel set out for its trial voyage on March 16. It adopts a more environmental-friendly LNG-power design.

The mega ship, 400 meters in length and 61.3 meters in width, has a capacity of 23,000 standard containers, with the load capacity reaching 220,000 tons.

To ensure the delivery of the vessel to a French client in April, the local government has introduced facilitated measures to the builder, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. under China State Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., by bringing back 1,500 workers from outside th city, at a time when the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has seriously disrupted production and operation in China.

"Our technicians and manufacturing workers work really hard. They have worked extra time and overcome technical difficulties. We are confident in the delivery as scheduled," said Chen Jianliang, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. under China State Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
