The Norwegian technology provider CGR Arctic Marine and the Chinese shipyard Wuzhou Shipbuilding have formed a JV for design and promotion of technologies for small-scale LNG carriers and LNG bunkering vessels.
The purpose of the JV is to jointly develop, commercialize and promote new technologies and assets for small-scale LNG and LNG bunkering business, the David Wu-owned company said in its statement.
The new JV aims to commercialize the patented LMB6 LNG bunkering vessel, developed and designed by CGR, the company owned by Bard Norberg and David Wu, owner of Saga LNG Shipping.
The vessel will be the first hybrid LNG bunkering vessels in the market, featuring a battery system in combination with pure gas generators. The vessel will furthermore include CGR’s proprietary cargo handling plant, Cryogenic Gas Recovery System.
“A hybrid ships with energy storage in large batteries in combination with pure gas generators can provide significant reductions in fuel cost, maintenance and emissions as well as improved responsiveness, regularity and safety,” Bard Norberg, founder and director, CGR Arctic Marine, said.
