CIMC ENRIC and DNV GL signed a strategic cooperation agreement to work together on the development of gas carriers and LNG gas tank design and fabrication over the next five years.
The agreement covers a wide spectrum of DNV GL’s services from different business areas, including its Oil & Gas and Business Assurance units, the company said in its statement.
“Our strong partnership on numerous LNG carrier & bunkering vessels, LEG carriers, LPG carriers, offshore modules and tanks with DNV GL encourages us to move beyond maritime and work more closely together in many dimensions,” said Gao Wenbao, vice general manager, CIMC ENRIC.
The cooperation focuses on developing gas tank and gas carrier technology to meet the market needs of the next generation. The agreement covers training and technical workshops, marine assurance, technology qualification, safety studies and analysis, approval in principle and joint development projects.
DNV GL’s Oil & Gas division will also work on LNG terminal design verification, with the Business Assurance unit taking on ISO management system certification and CE marking as well as industrial inspection and verification.
“Many recent studies have identified that LNG is a very important fuel to help the maritime industry and the world lower its carbon and air emissions and transition to carbon-neutral alternatives,” said Norbert Kray, DNV GL’s Regional Manager in Greater China.
