World-class offshore vessel delivered to Brazil at Qingdao

China delivered its self-made world's top class 350,000 tons of offshore floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit P70 to Brazil in Qingdao City of east China's Shandong Province on Wednesday.

The delivery is expected to further strengthen China's cooperation with the countries along the Belt and Road routes in the energy field and accelerate China's offshore equipment manufacturing industry to go to the world

P70 was loaded offshore in the city's Jiaozhou Bay, and its displacement tonnage is five times that of the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning. It took 18 months to build this giant vessel, a record speed for the delivery of a super FPSO in the world.

The FPSO is a comprehensive large-scale offshore production facility that integrates production, processing, storage and transfer, life and power supply. Hence it is called an "offshore oil factory." The P70 is more than 300 meters in total length and 74 meters wide. Its deck area is equivalent to that of three standard football fields. With a design life of 25 years, its operating water depth is 2,200 meters.

"P70 is currently one of the world's largest tonnage offshore floating storage and offloading facilities. Its maximum oil storage capacity is 1.6 million barrels, with a daily output of 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day, and it's able to process six million cubic meters of natural gas per day, that is about one quarter of the annual output of the Daqing Oil Field," said Tao Fuwen, project manager of FPSO for the Brazil Petrobras with the China National Offshore Oil Corporation.

Because the P70 itself has no propelling power at sea, it will be towed by the world's largest semi-submersible carrier to Brazil. The voyage will sail through the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean.

It will operate in the Santos Basin in the southeastern Brazilian waters.
