China Aug LNG imports up 10.7% on yr


China's liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports climbed 10.7% year-on-year and 6.4% month-on-month to 5.19 million tonnes in August, customs data showed on September 23. 
 
LNG imports accounted for 62.2% of total natural gas imports in the month, expanding 1.6 percentage points from the same period last year and 0.3 percentage point from the previous month. 
 
Total natural gas imports came in at 8.34 million tonnes in August, increasing 7.7% from the year-ago level and 5.7% from a month ago, according to the General Administration of Customs. 
 
Gaseous natural gas imports climbed 3.1% year on year and 4.7% month on month to 3.15 million tonnes in the month. 
 
The value of August's natural gas imports edged up 1.2% on the year to $3.4 billion, of which LNG amounted to $2.28 billion, down 3.5% year on year; gaseous natural gas at $1.12 billion, up 12.3%. 
 
The average import price of natural gas in August was calculated at $407.5/t, up marginally by $0.4/t month on month. LNG average price was $439/t, up $4/t on the month; gaseous natural gas at $355.5/t, reducing $6.3/t. 
 
In January-August, the country imported 63.04 million tonnes of natural gas, up 10.3% on the year. LNG imports stood at 38.33 million tonnes (17.6% YoY) and gaseous natural gas imports came in at 24.71 million tonnes (0.7% YoY). 
 
Natural gas imports were valued $27.7 billion in the first eight months, soaring 20.8% year on year. LNG imports value amounted to $18.7 billion, growing 22.1% on the year; value of intakes of gaseous natural gas gained 18.2% to $8.99 billion.
