The first batch of power generating units of the furthest offshore wind farm in China — Dafeng offshore wind farm, established by Jiangsu branch of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd, has come into operation on April 28, sources reported.
It is learned that upon the complete operation by the end of 2019, the yearly electricity transmitted to the power grid could hit 788 GWh. Besides, it is calculated that the annual power generated by this offshore wind farm could support one day consumption by more than 400 million people, sources said.
Located in eastern China's Jiangsu province, Dafeng offshore wind power project has a designed installed capacity of 400 MW. It consists of two construction phases. The Marine booster station of the Phase I construction is 55 kilometers off shore, data showed.
Zhu Yabo, project manager, said this wind power project could save 265,000 tonnes of coal and 542,000 cubic meters of fresh water compared with traditional power generating methods.
Besides, it could also effectively mitigate regional power shortage and contribute a great deal to regional economic development, Zhu added.
