China's second largest offshore oil,gas platform installed

China's second largest offshore oil and gas platform installed in the South China Sea, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced Thursday.

The central platform and wellhead platforms for the Dongfang 13-2 Gas Fields Development Project was successfully installed 70 meters under the sea.

This project will support further natural gas development in the South China Sea and ensure green energy supply to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

"After the platform is put into production, its gas production will reach 2.6 billion cubic meters a year, enough for the consumption by 10 million households a year," said Fu Jian, manager of the project.

The installation of these two modules were completed with the help of tidal forces.

"With the force of ebb tide, we completed the installation of the legs of the 18,000-ton central platform and that of the jacket platform. It's like the docking of a spacecraft with a space station," said Wang Minglun, an expert on floatage.
