BYD’s First Self-Owned PCTC Set for Official Delivery this Month

On December 9, BYD’s first self-owned automobile carrier(PCTC), BYD HEFEI, successfully began sea trials, marking a significant step in the company’s maritime logistics strategy. This vessel is a milestone achievement, as it is the first ship built and owned by BYD, setting it apart from previous leased vessels.

The BYD HEFEI is a 7,000-vehicle capacity dual-fuel roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship, built by Guangzhou Shipyard International for BYD (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd.. Measuring 199.9 meters in length, 38 meters in width, with a draft of 9 meters and a designed speed of 18.5 knots, it is capable of transporting both traditional fuel-powered vehicles and electric vehicles.

The vessel features advanced LNG/fuel dual-fuel propulsion systems, a domestic battery system, and a permanent magnet shaft generator, aligning with DNV ammonia-ready classification standards. Innovative technologies, such as LNG BOG re-condensation, energy-saving systems, and anti-fouling coatings, ensure the ship is green, intelligent, and highly efficient.

Earlier this month, BYD’s leased vessel BYD CHANGZHOU successfully departed for Europe after loading nearly 5,000 BYD NEVs at Jiangsu's Lianyungang and Taicang ports. Additionally, the BYD EXPLORER NO.1, another leased vessel, began operations earlier this year.

What sets BYD HEFEI apart is its status as BYD’s first fully self-owned vessel. According to Xinde Maritime News’ exclusive report, the BYD HEFEI will be officially delivered on December 28, a key moment for BYD as it further solidifies its global logistics capabilities and commitment to sustainable transport.
