Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang Visited COSCO SHIPPING

On February 14, Mr. Li Qiang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, made an inspection tour to COSCO SHIPPING. Revolving around the three new major tasks (i.e., expanding its free trade zone, setting up a registration system and a new board on its stock exchange, and integrating with regional development) assigned by General Secretary Xi Jinping to Shanghai and the building of “five centers” (i.e., a global economic, financial, trading, shipping and technical innovation center) as well as “four brands” (i.e., services, manufacturing, shopping and culture) in Shanghai, Li learned about the innovation, transformation and reform of the Corporation, while listening to its suggestions on further improving the business environment and promoting high-quality development.

As the world’s largest shipping company, COSCO SHIPPING’s industrial clusters cover shipping, logistics, shipping finance, equipment manufacturing, shipping services and social services. Its ocean routes have been expanded to more than 1,500 ports in over 160 countries and regions around the world.

After reviewing the corporate development process, Li was briefed by Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Capt. Xu Lirong on its innovation and transformation. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on related issues. On behalf of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Government, Li extended his gratitude to COSCO SHIPPING for its positive contributions to Shanghai’s socioeconomic development over the years.

Li said Shanghai is fully implementing the spirit of the important speech made by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection in Shanghai, striving to advance the three new major tasks, and making preparations for the 2nd China International Import Expo (CIIE). He expressed the hope that COSCO SHIPPING will actively undertake the major tasks, be deeply involved in the development of Shanghai into an international shipping center, promote the gathering of more high-end shipping elements in Shanghai, and continuously enhance its shipping innovation capabilities by exploring new systems, technologies, financial services and modes. He also expected the Corporation to support the role of Shanghai as a bridgehead in Belt and Road construction, to facilitate the economic and trade cooperation between Shanghai and the countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, and to seize the major opportunity of the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta to better serve China’s overall development.
