On September 17, CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of CIMC Group, signed a 1+1 EPC contract with Golar LNG, a global leader in FLNG operations, for the construction of a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) production, storage, and offloading unit. This marks a significant milestone for CIMC, as it embarks on its first FLNG project, underscoring its commitment to advancing green development and supporting China’s “3060” dual carbon goals.
About FLNG:
FLNG units are floating platforms designed to liquefy, store, and offload natural gas directly from offshore fields, allowing for the extraction of gas in remote areas without the need for onshore infrastructure. FLNG is regarded as one of the most complex and high-value products in the marine engineering industry, often referred to as the “new crown jewel” of offshore engineering.
Project Details:
Length: Approximately 390 meters
Width: 70 meters
Annual production: 3.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas
Delivery: Scheduled for 2027
Once delivered, this FLNG will enhance Golar LNG’s fleet and strengthen its competitive position in the global energy market. With energy security becoming a critical concern for many countries, the demand for FLNG technology is expected to grow, positioning FLNG as a key player in offshore gas development.
Golar LNG projects that the number of FLNG units could nearly double in the next five years, with global FLNG capacity reaching over 60 million tons annually by 2030.
CIMC Raffles’ Breakthrough:
This project further solidifies CIMC Raffles’ position as a leader in offshore engineering, proving its ability to manage large-scale, complex projects that meet the industry’s highest standards. The company remains dedicated to independent innovation and will continue providing high-quality and sustainable solutions for the global energy sector.
