On the afternoon of May 23, China's first 24000TEU Ultra Large Container Carriers (ULCC) left the Zhonghua Changxing Shipbuilding Base in Shanghai, marking the start of sea trial of the world's largest container ship designed and built by Chinese.

The 24000TEU ULCC No.2, designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, has a total length of 399.99 meters, a width of 61.5 meters, a cargo hold depth of 33.2 meters, a deck area of 24,000 square meters, and more than 60 meters longer than the world's largest aircraft carrier. It can carry 240,000 tons of cargo, and can hold more than 24,000 TEUs. The ULCC has the advantages of rapidity and low energy consumption, and all the performance indexes have reached the international advanced level.

According to the principal of Hudong-Zhonghua, since the resumption of work, Hudong-Zhonghua has received 12 orders for 174,000 cubic meters of LNG carriers.

The operating cost of ULCC is relatively low, and the market orders are booming since 2021. Currently, Hudong-Zhonghua holds 9 24000TEU container vessels.
