China Shipbuilding Capacity Utilisation Index for Q2 released xinde marine news Sarah Yu 2021-07-23 14:58

In the second quarter of 2021, China's Shipbuilding Capacity Utilization Index (CCI) was 706 points, an increase of 138 points from the second quarter of 2020, a year-on-year increase of 24.3%; An increase of 54 points from the first quarter of 2021, a month-on-month increase of 8.3%.

In the first half of 2021, the international shipping market, represented by container ships, continued to recover. The global demand for new ship orders increased significantly, and the price of new ships rose steadily. The key shipbuilding companies' hand-held ship orders rebounded for six consecutive months, promoting rapid growth in leading indicators.

In the second quarter, the completion volume and main business income of key shipbuilding enterprises maintained growth, and the utilization of production capacity was at a normal level.

However, due to the rapid increase in the prices of raw materials such as steel and the two-way fluctuation of exchange rates, the year-on-year decline in the efficiency of shipbuilding enterprises dragged down the synchronization indicators slightly.

Experts predict that the international shipping market will remain active in the third quarter of this year. Bulk carriers are expected to replace container ships as a new growth point, and the capacity utilization of key shipbuilding companies will continue to be at a normal level. Comprehensive analysis shows that the CCI will remain fluctuating within a normal range in the third quarter of 2021.
