Ms Chao comments on elected as BIMCO's President Designate xinde marine news 2019-06-05 14:37

Chairman of Hong Kong’s Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings, Sabrina Chao recently found a moment in her busy schedule to reflect upon her momentous election as President Designate of BIMCO last month.

“I am most honoured and humbled to be elected as President designate of BIMCO last month, with its long history and broad membership representing such a big percentage of the world’s fleet.

“I am excited to be elected at this most interesting time, when technology, environment, diversity, new world order all play such important roles in shaping the future.  I look forward to working closely with the executive committee, the board of directors and the secretariat on addressing some of these challenges.  Moreover, I am here to support my president, Sadan Kaptanoglu, whose long association with BIMCO and the shipping industry, will play a key role in the development of BIMCO under her presidency.”

Ms Chao will take over from the first female president, Turkish shipowner Þadan Kaptanoðlu, in 2021.

BIMCO, founded as “The Baltic and White Sea Conference” in Copenhagen in 1905, is now the world’s oldest and largest international shipping association with more than 2,100 members from all over the world. BIMCO provides a wide range of services to global shipowners, operators, managers, brokers and agents.

In 2018, Ms Chao was appointed CMA Commodore. From 2016 she served a two-year term as chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association.

Ms Chao will step down as chairman of Wah Kwong in August, after which she intends to take a roving ambassador role for Wah Kwong and the industry at large.
