Jack Hsu becomes HKSOA chairman

Oak Maritime's Jack Hsu will be officially unveiled this evening as the new chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, with Bjorn Hojgaard from AngloEastern taking over as deputy chairman.

Hsu is taking over from Wah Kwong's Sabrina Chao at the association.

Earlier this year, Hsu outlined some of his priorities on taking the two-year tenure at the influential shipowning body.

"The HKSOA is working closely with other stakeholders in the maritime cluster, including the Hong Kong government to address the lifeblood of our industry, which is people," Hsu said. One of the association's strategies is to promote awareness of shipping to the society at large, with a view to stimulate awareness among Hong Kong's youth as a potential career direction.

In selecting Hojgaard as deputy chairman, the association has opted for only its second ever non-owner as a putative chairman. Hojgaard's boss, Peter Cremers, became the first shipmanager to chair the association in 2007.
