Oil prices went up on Thursday after slumping over 2 percent in the previous session.
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for September delivery was up 0.45 U.S. dollar to settle at 65.46 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while Brent crude for October delivery increased 0.67 dollar to close at 71.43 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
The market was under pressure as official data showed the U.S. crude inventories rose unexpectedly last week.
The Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report on Wednesday that U.S. commercial crude inventories rose by 6.8 million barrels in the week through Aug. 10, higher than market estimates of a decrease of 2.5-million barrels.
Both WTI and Brent oil prices rebounded slightly on Thursday after touching the lowest levels in months on Wednesday.
