"MSC LEILA" Named and Delivered at Zhoushan Changhong International shipyard Xinde Marine News Pang Kai 2025-05-26 18:26

On May 25, the naming and delivery of "MSC LEILA" kicked off, the first 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel built by Changhong International Shipyard for MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company). This marks not only MSC and Changhong’s first cooperation on a large LNG-fueled containership project, but also the largest dual-fuel boxship ever built in Zhejiang Province.

The event was attended by distinguished guests from MSC, DNV, Sinosure, CIMC Financial Leasing, and six major banks, as well as leadership and employees of Changhong. The ship was officially named by Ms. Zhang Fuying, Deputy General Manager of MSC Logistics (Shanghai), who also performed the ceremonial rope cutting.

"MSC LEILA" symbolizes the leap Changhong International has made over the past decade—from small feeder ships to large smart vessels, from "Made in Changhong" to "Created by Changhong." With 36 LNG dual-fuel containerships now under construction for MSC, Changhong has become MSC’s largest global shipbuilding partner in this segment.

In his speech, Mr. Giuseppe Gargiulo, MSC’s Newbuilding Director, praised the outstanding quality and spirit of excellence shown by Changhong’s team. Mr. Dai Yayun, Executive Vice President of Changhong, extended sincere thanks to MSC, DNV, and Sinosure for their trust and continued support.

The celebration continued with a grand pre-naming dinner, where Chairman Mr. Li Hongwei emphasized MSC’s role as not just a key partner, but also a trusted mentor. He expressed hope for deeper cooperation with MSC, not only in shipbuilding but also in future repair and conversion projects.
