Hengli Heavy Industry Secures Order for 10 LNG Dual-Fuel 24,000 TEU Container Ships from MSC xinde marine news Chen Yang 2024-12-11 09:02

Hengli Heavy Industry has once again demonstrated its industry leadership by securing a significant order for 10 ultra-large LNG dual-fuel container ships, each with a capacity of 24,000 TEU. This deal, signed on December 5th, with one of Europe’s most prominent shipping lines, MSC, is valued at nearly ¥17 billion (approximately USD 2.3 billion).

This marks another milestone following Hengli's previous order in September, showcasing the company’s continuous strides in building next-generation, green, and energy-efficient vessels. The contract underscores Hengli Heavy Industry’s growing reputation as a global leader in advanced shipbuilding, solidifying its position as a trusted partner for world-class shipowners.

This order is part of an ongoing strategic partnership between Hengli Heavy Industry and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). As previously reported by Xinde Marine News, in August 2024, the two giants entered into a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Geneva. The agreement was signed by MSC founder and Chairman Gianluigi Aponte and Hengli Group Chairman Chen Jianhua, marking the beginning of comprehensive collaboration in shipbuilding, engine manufacturing, ship repair, and retrofitting.

Just three months ago, MSC placed an order with Hengli for 10 LNG dual-fuel 21,000 TEU container ships, further cementing their close relationship.

Since the commencement of Phase 1 operations in January 2023, Hengli Heavy Industry has achieved remarkable milestones:
Shipbuilding orders booked through 2028.
Over 30 vessels under construction.
First vessel delivered six months ahead of schedule in April.
The first marine engine successfully delivered in September.
A planned total of 12 vessel launches by year-end, including 30,000-ton VLCCs.
Looking ahead, Hengli’s Phase 2 project, which began in August, is progressing rapidly. With production facilities set to come online this month, the company is on track to fully ramp up operations, with an annual capacity to process 2.3 million tons of steel and manufacture 180 engines.

Pioneering Green Shipbuilding
This latest deal highlights Hengli’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in green shipbuilding, solidifying its role as a trailblazer in the global maritime industry.
