On September 3rd, 2024, the hashtag#SMM Hamburg, one of the world’s largest and most influential maritime exhibitions, opened in Germany with a focus on maritime energy transition and digital transformation. Among the many exhibitors was Huangpu Wenchong, South China’s largest shipbuilding enterprise, showcasing a range of high-tech, high-value products, including a 1250 TEU methanol dual-fuel open-hatch container vessel and a 9500 cubic meter multi-purpose gas carrier.

During the opening day, Huangpu Wenchong, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., signed a contract with Turkish shipowner Arkas Holding A.S. for the construction of two 4300 TEU container ships. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives, including Sheng Jigang, Vice President of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and Wang Yongliang, Director of the Economic Operation Department. Captain Ali Ibrahim Kontaytekin, Vice President of Arkas, Han Jianbing, Vice President of Huangpu Wenchong, and Wu Aijun, Vice President of China Shipbuilding Trading, signed the contract on behalf of the three parties.

The 4300 TEU container ship marks Huangpu Wenchong's entrance into the mid-sized container ship market. These vessels, part of the company’s future flagship product line, are already in high demand, with Huangpu Wenchong securing orders for 14 ships to date. This new contract further cements Huangpu Wenchong as the shipyard with the largest number of orders for this class of vessel globally.

Huangpu Wenchong has also developed a robust production line for feeder container vessels, ranging from 1100 to 3400 TEU, including its market-favored "Honghu" series, which has earned trust from Arkas and other global clients.

Arkas Holding A.S., a leading logistics and shipping conglomerate in Turkey, operates Arkas Line, specializing in container shipping across the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. This partnership marks Huangpu Wenchong’s first venture into Turkey's new shipbuilding market, solidifying the shipyard’s global reach.

The new 4300 TEU container ships will reinforce Huangpu Wenchong’s competitive edge in the mid-sized container ship segment. The company is committed to delivering these vessels with speed, efficiency, and quality, aligning with its "win-win" philosophy and integrating next-gen information and manufacturing technologies. These efforts will ensure streamlined, high-standard production processes, supporting the continued growth of the global shipping industry.
