Today, Höegh Autoliners proudly announced the naming of Höegh Aurora, the first groundbreaking AuroraClass vessel, at China Merchants Heavy Industry’s yard in Jiangsu, China. This marks a significant milestone in sustainable shipping, with Höegh Aurora being the largest and most environmentally friendly Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) ever built.
Key Features of the Aurora Class:
Ammonia and Methanol Ready: The Aurora Class vessels are the first in the PCTC segment to receive DNV’s ammonia-ready and methanol-ready notations, leading the way in zero-carbon propulsion technology.
Significant Emission Reductions:
Capable of reducing carbon emissions per car transported by up to 58% compared to the current industry average.

The Aurora Class is part of Höegh Autoliners' comprehensive green fleet renewal program, which includes 12 multi-fuel-ready vessels. By 2027, the last four vessels are expected to operate on clean ammonia, significantly cutting down carbon emissions.
Andreas Enger, CEO of Höegh Autoliners, emphasized, “With the Aurora Class, we are pioneering efforts to combat pollution in a hard-to-abate segment. This achievement is a testament to the support from the Norwegian maritime cluster, our trusted partners, and our investors.”
Sebjørn Dahl, COO, added, “The Aurora Class meets the demands of our growing number of carbon-conscious customers. Together, we will not rest until we achieve net zero operations.”
Innovative Partnerships: This achievement has been made possible through visionary partnerships with leading organizations such as Kongsberg Maritime, MAN Energy Systems, and many more. Leif O. Høegh, Board Chair, stated, “The Aurora Class is probably our most impactful innovation yet. We are changing the perception of deep-sea transportation and accelerating the green transition within our industry.”
Höegh Autoliners continues to lead the way in sustainable shipping, making the oceans cleaner and the future brighter.
