China received the most new shipbuilding orders in the world in September, raking in more than 82 percent of the global share, Yonhap News Agency reported on Friday.

South Korea secured about 6.5 percent of the share, ranking it second around the world, the news outlet said.

Yonhap quoted the latest data from Clarkson, a British shipbuilding and maritime industry analysis agency, as showing that in September, the global orders for building new ships totaled 1.86 million compensated gross tonnage (CGT), down 59 percent year on year.

Among them, Chinese shipping enterprises hovered up 1.53 million CGT of 62 new ships and South Korean enterprises 120,000 CGT of four ships.

The data also show that in the first nine months of 2023, the cumulative global orders for new ships hit 30.14 million CGT of 1,196 ships, a 23 percent year-on-year decline.

China and South Korea took 60 percent and 25 percent of them respectively.
