On August 29, China Merchants Energy Shipping announced that the company would build a methanol dual-fuel VLCC at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry at a net ship price of US$107.5 million. The ship is expected to be delivered no later than April 2026.

This new ship is expected to become the world's first methanol dual-fuel VLCC.

For DSIC, this order from CMES marks another major breakthrough in this ship type field after it obtained the world's first LNG-powered dual-fuel VLCC from COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation in 2019.
