China's first domestically-built large cruise ship to set sail CCTV 2023-06-01 15:14

The first large cruise liner developed by China is expected to be undocked in a shipyard of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. shipyard on June 6. And the final tests before launch are in full swing.

Called "Adora Magic City", the cruise ship, measuring 323.6 meters in length and 37.2 meters in width with a gross tonnage of 135,500 tons, has 2,826 cabins. The 2,125 guest rooms can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers.

The Vista-class ship also has a huge superstructure living and entertainment area up to 16 floors, including theaters, restaurants, shopping plazas, art corridors and water parks, aiming to offer a unique and immersive cruise experience that seamlessly blends Eastern and Western cultures.

The construction of large cruise ships represents a country's manufacturing capabilities and comprehensive technological level.

Due to the high thresholds in design and construction, they are dubbed as one of the three "pearls" on the crown of shipbuilding together with aircraft carriers and large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The vessel, which started construction in 2019, is jointly designed and built by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Cruise Technology Development Co., Ltd. (CCTD) and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.

The project team has successively made breakthroughs in weight control, vibration and noise reduction, and safety performance in its design and construction.

To control its weight to the minimum, all steel panels used are ultra thin.

In addition, engineers have applied professional simulation modeling software for analyzing and collecting data of the main vibration and noise sources through the construction of other two cruise ships to effectively reduce vibration and noise amid the operation.

In the meantime, a special redundant backup system has been designed for the liner to improve its safety performance.

The construction of the cruise ship also means Chinese shipbuilders' efforts to explore the high-end and high value-added market.
