On November 16, the 2021 APEC Smart Port Development Forum was held online by APEC Port Services Network (APSN). COSCO SHIPPING Ports was invited to participate in the event and delivered a keynote speech on “Smart Port Development Trends and Practices”. During the forum, the winners under the 2020 and 2021 APSN Green Port Award System (GPAS) were announced. After winning the award in 2018 for the first time, COSCO SHIPPING Ports Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal was presented the 2021 APSN Green Port Award gain for its ongoing efforts to build a green low-carbon terminal.

Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal relies on the comprehensive, scientific, rational and systematic green port development guidelines provided by APSN to enhance awareness of environmental and ecological protection, upgrade sustainable development strategies, and fulfil social responsibilities and obligations to demonstrate its leading role in green port construction across the region.

Established on November 5, 2008, APSN is the first international organization initiated by Chinese leaders that is committed to promoting the development and cooperation of the port industry in the Asia-Pacific region. On the basis of the green port certification system implemented in developed economies, APSN has developed a green port evaluation system that adapts to the diversity of economic and social development levels in the Asia-Pacific region, namely the APEC Green Port Award System (GPAS), which was officially launched in 2016. It is also the only green port evaluation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region. So far, 36 ports in 9 Asia-Pacific economies have been granted the APSN Green Port Award.
