Taizhou Port to expand opening-up Chinadaily 2020-08-12 10:55

The further opening-up of Taizhou Port in Taizhou, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, was recently approved by the State Council, Taizhou Daily reported on Aug 9.

The approval means that the Toumen, Jiantiao and Longmen port areas of Taizhou Port will now be opened up to the world, marking the complete opening-up of the 970-square-kilometer Taizhou Port.

Though Taizhou trades with more than 220 countries and regions, Taizhou Port previously had no direct international container lines.

"Taizhou port has been serving as the feeder port of Ningbo Port," explained Ye Zaiwu, deputy director of the Taizhou Port and Fisheries Administration.

Ye added that international ships from Ningbo and Shanghai will berth at Taizhou Port as soon as possible so that ships loaded with foreign trade goods will be able to set sail from Taizhou.

After the opening-up, the annual throughput of foreign trade goods at the Toumen port area is expected to reach 12 million metric tons by 2022, including 1.4 million tons of coal, 60,000 containers and 40,000 commercial vehicles, according to Ye.
