“Siem Confucius”, the world's largest LNG-powered ro-ro ship built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry, joined the Fleet of Volkswagen Group of Germany on its maiden voyage.

On June 16, 2020, "Siem Confucius" loaded more than 4,800 vehicles from Emden and set off for Mexico for a three-week period. It will stop at ports in Canada and the United States on the way.

This is the first of two 7,500 LNG Carriers chartered by The Volkswagen Group from Siem Car Carriers, to be deployed on the transatlantic route from Emden to Mexico.

With these two LNG-powered ro-ro ships, Volkswagen Group will also become the world's first automobile manufacturer to use LNG powered ships.

The LNG-powered ro-ro ship built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry for Siem Car Carriers was developed and designed by SDARI, and classified into ABS.

The ship is 199.9 meters in length, 38 meters wide, 14.8 meters deep, with a designed draft of 8.65 meters, a speed of 19 knots, a endurance of 12,000 nautical miles, and 13 car decks.

Compared with traditional energy propulsion ships, this world's largest LNG-powered ro-ro ship has the characteristics of low carbon emission, NOx emission and no SOx and PM particle emission of LNG clean fuel.
