After the launch of the world's first LNG-powered VLCC design in 2015 and obtained AIP from the classification society, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) is expected to become the first shipyard in the world to build LNG powered VLCC, and will build the first LNG powered dual-fuel VLCC for Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation.

It is reported that a 319,000 DWT VLCC built by DSIC for Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation will be upgraded to an LNG powered ship. This is one of the four 319000 DWT VLCCs ordered by Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation in 2017. The ship will be built according to Tier III standards and can reduce sulfur emissions by 95%.

In April this year, Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry jointly launched the “World's First LNG Dual Fuel VLCC Cooperation Project”. The two sides will jointly promote the use of LNG as the main fuel on VLCC, so as to achieve the goal of green emission reduction for ships.
