A 26.9km single 220-kiloVolt submarine cable without joint has recently completed the test in the city of Zhuanghe, northeast China's Liaoning Province. 

 

It is the world's longest single cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables, independently developed by Hengtong Group Co., ltd. 

 

The submarine cable shall be used in the primary transmission cable for powering the city's Zhuanghe offshore wind power project, which is the first of its kind in the northeast, and the largest in northern China, developed by the Chinese state-owned utility China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG). 

 

Experts said the breakthrough technology is of great significance, as it could expand the production of offshore wind power and revitalize the region's flagging economy. 

 

"The cable will have a continuous boot period of 25 days, which is the world's longest continuous boot period for its kind in the industry. These are the results of our technological accumulation over the years," said Li Ziwei, staff of Zhuanghe offshore wind power project. 

 

The total installed capacity of the entire project is about 300,000 kilowatts. The power generated by each wind turbine is transmitted to a 220 kiloVolts offshore booster via 35 kiloVolts electrical circuit. All the electric energy is boosted by the offshore booster station and then merged into the Liaoning power grid through the 220 kV submarine cable and the overland lines.
