China's latest LNG carrier delivered in Shanghai xinde marine news 2019-01-11 10:28

China's latest liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier "Fanfei" was delivered to its user on Tuesday at the Changxing Island of Shanghai.

The 290-meter-long carrier is the same size as a medium aircraft carrier. The maximum LNG it can hold is 104 million cubic meters after vaporization, which can power 600,000 households for a whole year.

"The Fanfei LNG carrier is in combination the latest scientific and technological achievements of China, and is in innovation of a dual-axial tilt system with a short bulb bow and low rotating speed, and is in integration of a dual-fuel electric propulsion system and a reliquefaction device. These improve efficiency by nine percent and will save around 20,000 tons of fuel every year," said Tan Yaomo, vice president of China National Offshore Oil Corporation Energy Development and Oil Exploitation Company.

Fanfei is the last LNG carrier made under the authorization of the Curtis project in Australia — China's first overseas LNG production base.

The new carrier and its predecessors Fanya, Fanmei and Fan'ou form a "mobile LNG pipeline" which can transport 8.6 million tons of LNG annually, one sixth of China's LNG imports in 2018.

"Fanfei's successful delivery to the user means a full completion of China's first overseas LNG carrier project of the world class. It ensures our country can transport clean energy back to China and afford to use it after buying it overseas," said Tan.

China will then build LNG transport facilities in its coastal and inland regions to make the clean energy reach more households in the country.
