China's research icebreaker Xuelong arrived at New Zealand’s Christchurch on Saturday morning to replenish supplies on China's 35th Antarctic expedition.

This is the second phase of supply delivery it conducts after it left Zhongshan station, China's research station in Antarctic, two weeks ago.

In its two-day call at the New Zealand's port, Xuelong, or Snow Dragon, will load about 1,250 tons of fuels and about 1,000 tons of fresh waters, vegetables and other food.

A total of 67 new researchers will board the icebreaker and take part in China's 35th Antarctic research expedition. At the same time, 20 previous researchers will go ashore and fly for home.

Xuelong carrying a research team set sail from Shanghai on Nov. 2, beginning the country's 35th Antarctic expedition which will last 162 days and cover 37,000 nautical miles (68,500 km).

Zhongshan Station is the second Chinese research station in Antarctica. It is managed by the Polar Research Institute of China. The station is supplied by annual visits of Xuelong.
